History of the Drip Irrigation

The modern technology of drip irrigation was invented in Israel. Modern drip irrigation has arguably become the world's most valued innovation in agriculture since the invention of the impact sprinkler in the 1930s, which offered the first practical alternative to surface irrigation. It is becoming popular for row crop irrigation, especially in areas where water supplies are limited or recycled water is used for irrigation. Careful study of all the relevant factors like land topography, soil, water, crop and agro-climatic conditions are needed to determine the most suitable drip irrigation system and components to be used in a specific installation.
In India, farmers gradually steps up from Flood Irrigation to pipeline – cement/Asbestoses to HDPE (High Density Polyethylene Pipe) / PVC – in order to minimize water losses. Followed by micro tube system. A revolutionary development was made after invention of dripper. Initially it was use for fruit trees & Horticultural orchards but it was popular to large scale in field crops grown in rows.
Now days there are a wide range of emitter, sprayer, Nozzles & other Access is available to meet different crop requirements.

About Drip Irrigation

What is Irrigation?
It is artificial / arranged application of water to the soil for better crop production.

What is Drip Irrigation?
Drip irrigation is a pressurized low & frequent application of water in a uniform way by a pipeline network. Water is applied directly near root zone area drop by drop. It is a tailor made system made of different component to meet different field & crop requirement. It is an alternative to sprinkler or furrow methods of irrigating crops. Drip irrigation can be used for crops with high or low water demands.

Why consider drip irrigation?

Drip irrigation can help you use water efficiently. A well-designed drip irrigation system loses practically no water to runoff, deep percolation, or evaporation. Drip irrigation reduces water contact with crop leaves, stems, and fruit. Thus, conditions may be less favorable for disease development. Irrigation scheduling can be managed precisely to meet crop demands, holding the promise of increased yield and quality.
  • Maximum use of water & energy you can cover almost double the area with drip irrigation as compare to flood. By minimizing distribution losses & increasing use efficiently up to 97%.
  • Increase in fertilizer & efficiency.
  • Reducing labor cost for Irrigation , fertilization & weed control.
  • Increase in field from 25 to 200%.
  • Best quality produce.
  • Product quality control & law can be useful for cultivation.
  • Adaptable to oddly shaped fields or those with uneven topography or soil texture
  • Fertilizer costs and nitrate losses can be reduced.
  • Allows safe use of recycled water.
  • Moisture within the root zone can be maintained at field capacity.
  • Minimized soil erosion.
  • Lower labor cost.
  • Variation in supply can be regulated by regulating the valves and drippers.
  • Foliage remains dry thus reducing the risk of disease.
